Music is central to worship at Northside. We affirm, as the Presbyterian Directory for Worship puts it well, that “song is a response which engages the whole self in prayer.”
Our Music Director is Carlos Perez Tabares.
Carlos is a Ph.D. student in Music Theory at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Before coming to Michigan, he served as a Music Director for the First United Methodist Church of Jamaica (FUMCOJ) in Queens, New York.
Our small choir sings on a semi-regular basis and all are welcome to join choir practice immediately preceding church each Sunday. Our choir members include folks of all ranges of abilities. We sing sacred music from a variety of styles, including classical, gospel, and traditional hymns. We also have a lot of fun in the process!
